The programs help young children learn new skills and meet individualized goals.<\/span><br \/> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through these programs, parents and caregivers learn therapeutic strategies and specific techniques from professionals based on their child\u2019s individual needs. The programs aim to build parents\u2019 and caregivers\u2019 capacity to support their child\u2019s skill development in:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">social interaction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">play<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">communication<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">emotional development<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">adaptive development and self-help skills<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The programs are play-based, child-led and developmentally appropriate. The first part is a 6-month, half-day group-based, skill-building program, focused on helping children develop school-readiness skills in six areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/span><br \/> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">To participate in the entry to school program, your child must be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">registered in the Ontario Autism Program<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">between three to six years old as of December 31 in the year they are starting school<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">starting kindergarten or Grade 1 for the first time<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some children are not eligible for the entry to school program, including children:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">who are receiving<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/ontario-autism-program-core-clinical-services\">\u00a0<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/ontario-autism-program-core-clinical-services\">core clinical services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with an active<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/ontario-autism-program-behaviour-plans\">behavior plan<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">who have already started attending school<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Children who are in the entry-to-school program can receive other Ontario Autism Program supports (other than OAP core clinical services), special needs support, and\/or early intervention programs at the same time.
